Early Planning Once again spring is approaching and thoughts again turn to the sea and to cruising and good times. The cruise committee has been exploring possibilties and has come up with an itinerary which should be fairly definite. Your faithful cruise committee has also taken a day trip to Long Island and explored Montauk Yacht Club and the facilities at Three Mile Harbor. Both are quite impressive and we think they look like great destinations.

Skippers meeting in the morning at the WHYC clubhouse, followed by departure to our first port, that being Montauk, distance approximately 15 miles. There should be no problem reserving a slip at the Montauk Yacht Club. The cost for the slip is about $4.50 per foot. An alternative to renting a slip is to anchor out in Lake Montauk and come in by dinghy. Hopefully, we can all get together at the MYC for drinks and dinner.Thursday 07/29/10
Cruise over to Three Mile Harbor and East Hampton Point Marina. This trip is about 15 miles from Montauk. The committee found this location to be very impressive as well. We met with some of the staff and they were very friendly and helpful and will be expecting us. Here, dock space is available at $5.50 per foot. Again, anchoring out in the harbor and coming in via dinghy is an option. There is a very nice restaurant there overlooking the harbor and looks like a great place to meet.Friday 07/30/10
Our next destination is an old favorite, Shelter Island Yacht Club. It is approximately 8 miles from Three Mile Harbor to Dering Harbor where the SIYC is located. There are moorings at SIYC or docking in Greenport is another option. This year, if cruisers would like to have dinner there, choices will be off their regular menu. We think this will work out better than an assigned room with a limited menu. Of course there are many other choices for dinner. In walking distance from the SIYC is the Chequit Inn and The Dory or a short walk to the South Ferry for a ride over to Greenport. There are many fine restaurants in Greenport.Saturday 07/31/10
We planned this as a lay day so we can relax or explore the island itself or take in Greenport with its many places to shop. A suggestion was made for a short cruise to West Neck Harbor for a rafting party. That should be a good time.Sunday 08/01/10
Our final leg will be back to WHYC and our post cruise party. These are our plans as they stand at the present time. If anyone has any other thoughts or comments, please do not hesitate to contact Ralph J. Burnard either by phone at 401-596-2111 or email at rjburnard@cox.net.
