Employment for the 2023 Season

EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION

Located in the beautiful seasonal community of Watch Hill Rhode Island, the Watch Hill Yacht Club was founded in 1913 and is a traditional Club with sailing, entertainment, and fine dining.  We are currently looking for motivated individuals to join our team for the season.  Benefits include uniforms, parking, employee meals, and year-end bonsuses.

Office Manager/Member Services

Dates of Employment: April 15th - October 31st
Scope of Responsibilities:
Provide administrative, secretarial, and bookkeeping support services to the Board of Directors, General Manager and appropriate Club staff. 
 
Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Prepares notices and other items for the Executive Committee and Board of Governors meetings.
  2. ​Performs general office tasks not limited to word processing, event registration and management, and data entry.
  3. Maintains general correspondence.
  4.  Assists with member’s concerns and provides information concerning billing, membership, special functions, etc.
  5. Prepares and sends mailings about Club events, functions and general information.
  6. Assists with development and distribution of Club publications, including the weekly email.
  7. Maintains supply of Club information for members.
  8. Works with chef as needed to update menus.
  9. Assists in the maintenance of the Club’s Website.
  10. Performs special projects as assigned by the General Manager.
  11. Assists with Club Store merchandise: ordering, inventory, sale, etc.
  12. Answers the Club phone and assists with requests and questions.
  13. Makes dining reservations for members and assists with managing/maintaining the dining database.
  14. Makes special event reservations for the Club entertainment.
  15. Assists with ordering for the Clubhouse as needed. 

Software Requirements:

  1. Use of Jonas Club Software (training will be provided)
  2. ​Use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook


Junior Sailing Instructor:

Dates of Employment: June 19th- August 24th, 2023
Job Description: Nestled within the heart of the Watch Hill Village, the Watch Hill Yacht Club runs a wonderful Youth Sailing Summer Program for students ages six to eighteen. The Program has 120+ students, taught by six instructors. Currently, WHYC is looking for 1-2 talented sailing instructors, to teach beginner to advanced level classes, in the Opti and c420 division. Classes Meet: Monday through Friday; 35-40 expected hours per week, with overtime available. Lunch included. Some weekend events possible. Ability to give private lessons after class hours for additional income. Responsibilities include: develop weekly lesson plans for on-shore and conduct on-water drills, set up/run interclub races and Junior Regattas, as well as travel to local events by water and land.
Required Certifications/License: US Sailing Level 1; current First Aid/CPR; Boater’s License; Driver’s License. 

 


Launch Operator

Dates of Employment: May - October
Job Description: The Watch Hill Yacht Club is a seasonal business located in the beautiful area of Watch Hill, Rhode Island. We are looking for seasonal launch operators to join our team.

  • Operating launch between Club and member boats
  • Assisting WHYC members with their boats
  • Must have USCG Approved Limited Master (Launch Tender) License
 

Fine Dining Servers, Bussers, & Bartenders

Dates of Employment: May - October (short season is also available)
Job Description: Our dining room team is looking for team members for the 2023 season.  Our ideal candidate would have prior Club and/or food service experience, strong people skills, a willingness to learn, and be an excellent teammate.  We love our staff to have a great attitude and attention to detail. A can-do mindset is always on the menu.

Prep Cooks & Dishwashers

Dates of Employment: May - October (short season is also available)
Job Description: Our kitchen team is looking for team members for the 2023 season.  Our ideal candidate should have prior cooking experience, although we are willing to train candidates.
